The Denizli Cable Car and the Bağbaşı Highland

The line running from the city up to a highland at about 1,400 metres; it has been working since 2015 and offers the city's fastest change of scenery.

Going Up

The cable car runs from the slope immediately above the centre of Denizli up to the Bağbaşı highland. The highland stands at about 1,400 metres; the difference in climate between it and the city is felt in the first minute, particularly in the summer months.

The line entered service in 2015 and is operated by BELTAŞ, a subsidiary of Denizli Metropolitan Municipality. The journey shows the passage from above the city to the pine cover of the slope in a single view.

Because the line is close to the city centre it does not call for a day of its own: you can go up in the afternoon and come back towards evening. The view is in the journey itself — as the cabin rises the city flattens out and the valley comes into sight whole.

On the Highland

At Bağbaşı there are bungalows, a goat-hair tent, a restaurant, a picnic area, stalls selling local produce and a campsite for tents. The highland is a place people come up to from the city for a lunch; do not look for a monument to visit.

People go up to cool off in the summer months and to see snow in winter. In both seasons it is noticeably colder up there than below.

Thanks to the difference in altitude between it and the city, the highland is noticeably cool in summer; it is the nearest place to go to escape the heat of the Denizli plain. In winter that same difference means snow, and it is ordinary to find snow up there while it is raining in the city.
